Thank you for your interest in serving on the Blackhawk Human Resource Association Board of Directors.
Service on the BHRA Board of Directors is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. It is also a great honor and responsibility which requires engagement and presence both physically and mentally. While each position has a specific position description, here are some general responsibilities that should be considered before deciding to run for office:
Participate often. This includes attending chapter meetings and board meetings. It also includes being prepared for board meetings, asking critical questions, and helping the board come to agreement in making decisions that affect chapter membership.
Grow personally. Know or build your knowledge about your chapter, SHRM, and its governing bylaws. Learn about SHRM and its role with your chapter. The SHRM Leaders Guide is available online in the Volunteer Leaders’ Resource Center (VLRC) to assist you. Stay informed of trends in the field of human resources and timely issues affecting your chapter.
Maintain professionalism. Be willing to provide contacts and resources to help your chapter grow and develop as an organization. Uphold confidentiality, as appropriate, of chapter Board issues and membership data. Be a chapter member in good standing and maintain a SHRM membership.
A few of the benefits of becoming a chapter Board member include:
- BHRA membership dues and monthly chapter meeting fees are waived.
- Reimbursement of SHRM membership; up to 100% if not employer funded.
- Free attendance to WI State SHRM Leadership Conference.
- An opportunity to be recognized as a leader in the field of human resources.
- Hours spent as a volunteer also count towards SHRM certification credits.
The opportunity to attend SHRM’s Annual Leadership Conference in November. Conference is FREE for Chapter President OR President-Elect. The conference registration fee for other chapter board members is only $200. Accommodations for this event may also be provided for eligible board members.

Stacy Matuseski SHRM-SCP
Stacy is currently the HR Benefits Analyst with First National Bank and Trust Company headquartered in Beloit. Stacy has served on the BHRA Board for over 5 years in the roles of College Relations, Workforce Readiness, Social Media, President Elect and is the current President in her second term. Stacy is also a member of SHRM's A-Team and has respresented BHRA twice at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Stacy graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where she studied Human Resources Management. She has also earned her SHRM-SCP designation.
Stacy lives in Janesville with her husband, Jared and dog children, Bella and Reggie.
Andrew Marcotte SHRM-SCP
Andrew is currently a Sr. HR Business Partner at Blain's Farm and Fleet, a specialty discount retailer with 42 locations throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan. In this role, Andrew directly supports store operations, store management, and automotive service teams across all 42 locations. This enterprise role allows for a strategic partnership with store management teams to deliver tactical HR support on all HR processes, programs, and practices.
Heather is currently the Human Resources Manager at Prent Corporation headquartered in Janesville, WI. She began her HR career there in 2008 and has transitioned into various roles throughout her time there. She has been a BHRA member since 2011 and has served on the Board since 2017. Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resource Management from Concordia University.
Much of her free time is spent with her husband of 20+ years, their two children, and two dogs.
Constance Keyes SHRM-SCP, SPHR
Coni has 15+ years of HR experience with a local non-union manufacturing firm. Most recently, as Sr. Supervisor / Comp and Benefits Manager. Responsible for creating and implementing a new compensation program for production employees. Prior roles include office staffing, policy administration and legal compliance. Duties included initiating and coordinating multiple process improvement programs across multi-functional disciplines. Coni coordinated numerous company-wide training programs.
Most recently, Coni participated in the BHRA SHRM Study program and received the SHRM-SCP certification in January 2020. In March 2020 she completed HR Certification studies at Upper Iowa University, which opens additional college-level teaching opportunities.
Coni has served as a member of the BHRA Board since 2017.
Professional Development Director
Alissa joined Hausmann-Johnson Insurance in 2017 as a Benefits Consultant. She has a family history of insurance, which inspired her to pursue the industry. Throughout her career, Alissa has had the opportunity to work in many different capacities within the insurance industry. In these roles Alissa recognized that it’s all about helping clients and ensuring they are getting the most out of their benefits. She feels her role at HJI is the culmination of her diverse insurance experience and she is eager to share her knowledge. Alissa is an employer advocate that approaches employee benefits as an opportunity to educate, guide, and discover each employer’s unique needs in order to ensure they have the health and wellness benefits they need for their very unique employees. It’s her responsibility to be a subject matter expert for my employer groups and answer all of their questions and concerns in the ever-changing healthcare landscape. She is a second generation benefits consultant—in a family-rooted company—that she’s very proud to be a part of. Hausmann-Johnson’s values and mission statement could not align more with the way Alissa approaches her business and my career aspirations.
Being a Benefit Consultant enables Alissa the ability to help countless employees make the right decisions for themselves and their families in the healthcare world.
Alissa holds BA in Reconciliation Studies and Mediation from Bethel University. She has volunteered extensively with Kids Around the World through packaging food for children in third world countries and traveling to Haiti to build playgrounds for underprivileged children. She also enjoys playing volleyball, boating on Lake Geneva, and traveling to discover new adventures whether they are local or abroad.
Jeffery Palkowski MHRM, SHRM-SCP, PHR
Jeff Palkowski, MHRM, SHRM-SCP, PHR is a Senior Human Resources Specialist-Workforce Relations with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Information Technology He has worked in human resources and has been involved with the Society for Human Resource Management at national and local chapter levels since 2003.
Jeff currently serves as the Director of Governmental Affairs on the Wisconsin SHRM State Council, SHRM Advocacy Captain for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, and a member of the SHRM Government Affairs “Committee of 50”. He previously served as the Director of Government Affairs on the Greater Madison Area SHRM Board. In these roles, Jeff has been able to combine his previous experience working as a Deputy Chief of Staff/Policy Advisor in the Wisconsin Legislature along with his interest and desire to advocate and initiate positive change in the human resources industry as a SHRM Advocacy A-Team Member since 2012.
Jeff is a certified Professional in Human Resources and SHRM Senior Certified Professional and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and earned a Masters in Human Resources Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management.
Kyle Gjertson SHRM-CP
Kyle is an HR Business Partner with the midwest retailer Blain's Farm and Fleet, working with the Store Operations and Loss Prevention departments on HR strategies, processes, and practices. In this position, Kyle has had the opportunity to learn and develop abilities in multiple HR disciplines including employee relations, training and development, effective communication, and compensation/benefits. Kyle has worked in the HR field for 3 years with Blain's and enjoys the wide variety of work, challenges, and opportunities this role gives him.
Kyle graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business Management from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in May of 2016. In the fall of 2019, he participated in BHRA's SHRM Certification Program, and earned his SHRM - CP certification in January 2020.
During his free time, Kyle enjoys staying active with running or biking as well as spending his time with family/friends.
College Relations Director
Geoff is a 2012 graduate of UW-Whitewater with a Bachelors in Business Administration with a focus in Human Resources Management and Business Management. After many years of retail experience, Geoff began working in HR in 2013. Since then he has been with two companies assisting with the many fucntions of HR. He is currently AVP, HR at the Bank of New Glarus.
He resides in Janesville with his wife Ginny and daughters, Reese and Rory.
Volunteering has always been an interest for Geoff as he coaches for Rock Soccer Club. In addition, he has volunteered for several Junior Achievement Programs with outreach to children of all ages. He has conducted mock interviews for Urban League of Greater Madison as well.
Workforce Readiness Director
Jenny Revels SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Jenny Revels is the owner of Revels Consulting LLC, a consulting business offering human resources services to businesses and career coaching/resume assistance for individuals (including outplacement services). Jenny has a BBA/Human Resources Management from UW-Whitewater and an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, along with over 20 years of experience working as a human resources leader. She holds SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications. As a human resources consultant, she assists business owners, other HR departments and management teams with various projects and/or ongoing HR services. Services include, but are not limited to executive/professional recruitment, employee performance management, employee communication guidance, HR audits/workplace compliance, employee relations, and management training/coaching. Jenny is also very involved in the community – she serves as board chair for Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, is facilitating the Milton Leadership Institute, serves on the Blackhawk Human Resources Association board, United Way Cabinet, Forward Janesville Ambassadors, and Girls Night Out Rock County Leadership Committee to name a few. In the past, she served in board leadership roles with YWCA of Rock County, Rock County Young Professionals and Wisconsin SHRM.
Lauren Navarra SHRM-CP
Lauren is currently an HR Business Partner with Blain’s Farm and Fleet, a family-owned Midwestern retailer, working with their Store Operations and Loss Prevention department. In her role as HR Business Partner, Lauren works as a strategic partner for their store leaders and assists with HR support for all process and practices. In working with Blain’s for the past 3 years, Lauren has had the ability to develop her skills in many HR disciplines including training and development, associate relations, and performance and talent management. Lauren continues to support the Chief Human Resources Officer alongside her duties as HR Business Partner and enjoys the variety and challenges of this role.
Lauren graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater with a minor in Human Resources Management in December of 2017. Lauren received her SHRM-CP certification in February of 2020 and participated in BHRA’s SHRM Certification Program in the fall of 2019 for the preparation of her certification.
In her free time, Lauren and her partner, Alex, enjoy traveling new places, hiking, watching motor sports, and spending time with their fur baby, Murphy.
Community Relations Director
Traci Scherck SHRM-SCP, SPHR
Traci has 15 years of human resources experience in profit, non-profit, local government and union environments. She has been responsible for building an HR department including the creation and implementaiton of policy and procedure, safety and wellness initiatives, cultural competency, strategic planning, performance management, payroll and benefit administration and negotiation. Traci partners with organizations infusing culture into the framework to meet both the personal and professional objectives. She has a B.S. in Management from UW-Lacrosse, a MPA from Northern Illinois University, is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and carries both the SPHR and SHRM-CP designations.
